CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO – October 18, 2016 – eSentire, Inc., the leader in managed cyber threat detection and response services, today announced that its VP and Industry Security Strategist Mark Sangster was named to the National Law Journal’s second annual list of Cyber Security Trailblazers. The list recognizes individuals who have helped make a difference in the fight against criminal cyber activity and towards adding much needed layers of data security in an increasingly digital world of commerce.

While those recognized impact the practice of law in different ways, a common threat ties them together: each has shown a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their mission, having achieved remarkable successes along the way.

With over 20 years’ experience as a cybersecurity evangelist, Sangster unites a strong technical aptitude and an intuitive understanding of regulatory agencies, while building mutually beneficial relationships in key sectors. During his career, Sangster spent significant time researching and speaking to peripheral factors influencing the way that legal firms integrate cybersecurity into their day-to-day operations.

As regulating bodies strictly govern the financial services market, law firms will soon face mounting pressure to comply with similar regulatory asks. Sangster defines processes and tools designed to help law firms navigate the complexities of cybersecurity management. Using the ABA Cybersecurity Handbook as an anchor point, custom tools bring together best practice methodologies across multiple industries including the SEC, NIST, and AITEC.

In addition to Sangster’s role as VP and industry security strategist at eSentire, he also serves as a member of the LegalSec Council with the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) and Law Journal Newsletters’ Board of Editors.

“This distinction is an honor,” said Sangster. “Law firms today represent one of the fastest growing attack surfaces, as evidenced by the steep increase in successful breach events this year alone. The legal industry in and of itself is unique; it requires its own set of frameworks and guidance measures to help defend against the sophisticated threat vectors targeting it. I’m humbled and honored to help contribute to the incredible strides the industry has made towards cybersecurity governance and best practice.”

The 2016 Cyber Security Trailblazers will be featured in the October issue of National Law Journal and online at https://www.law.com/nationallawjournal/static/nlj-special-supplements/.
